Our Mission

The mission of the Local 6001 Legacy Scholarship is to empower our union members and their families by providing financial support for educational advancement. Through this scholarship, we affirm our commitment to solidarity, advocacy, and lifelong learning,

fostering a stronger, more united community where every member has the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. By investing in education, we strengthen our collective voice and

build a legacy of opportunity, empowerment, and union pride for generations to come.

Scholarship Application Requirements

 1. Academic Achievement: Include an unofficial transcript or proof of current registration or acceptance at an accredited institution. While academic records are considered to ensure applicants are in good standing, they are not the primary basis for approval.

2. Union or Community Involvement: Priority is given to applicants actively involved in union activities, community service, or volunteer work, demonstrating values of solidarity and advocacy. 3. Written Essay or Video Submission: Submit a written essay or video outlining your educational goals and explaining how the scholarship will enable you to contribute to your community and the union.

4.Recommendations: Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, union representative, or community leader.

Local 6001 Legacy Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To ensure fairness and support for our union family, the following eligibility criteria apply to the 2026-2027

 Local 6001 Legacy Scholarship:

  • Union Membership Status: Applicant or sponsor must be active members of Local 6001 in good standing at the time of application and award distribution.
  • Immediate Family Members: Immediate family members of Local 6001 members in good standing are also eligible. Immediate family is defined as a spouse, domestic partner, child, or grandchildren.
  • Employment Location: Eligible applicants must be directly associated with one of the 9 airport stations (AUS, DFW, ELP, IAH, MCI, OKC, SAT, STL, TUL) or DFW Reservations represented by Local 6001.
  • Educational Purpose: The scholarship must be used for tuition, fees, books, or other educational expenses at an accredited post secondary institution, including universities, community colleges, vocational schools, or recognized certification programs.
  •  Academic Standing: Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, or be on track to graduate at the end of the current academic year, or currently attending a post-secondary institution.
  •  Application Completion: All required application materials, including essays or videos and proof of enrollment or acceptance, must be submitted by the published deadline.
  • Previous Recipients: Past recipients may reapply; however, preference may be given to first-time applicants to ensure broader access to scholarship funds.

These criteria are designed to support the educational goals of   our union members and their immediate families (spouse, domestic partner, children, grandchildren) while promoting fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity across our membership.
